Description: Catalpa fargesii v duclouxii is a lovely flowering form that matures to a round crowned tree, bearing panicles of trumpet-shaped flowers of pale pink, with brown and orange spotted throats. These are followed by narrow bean-like seed pods. Large, pointed leaves are tinged bronze in the spring.
History: Introduced in 1907 by Ernest Wilson.
Catalpa Growing Tips: Grow in a moist but well-drained, fertile soil in sun or part shade. Shelter from strong winds as these may shred the large leaves. Protect from late spring frosts when young. Hard prune every winter to increase leaf size.
