Description: Acer campestre 'William Caldwell' is a small tree with a compact and narrow, upright growing habit. Its autumn colour is a spectacular dark orange and crimson red. Small green flowers appear in the spring which is followed by red, winged seeds.
History: Developed in Knutsford, Cheshire in 1976 at the William Caldwell Nursery.
Acer (Maple) Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
